Originally from South Africa and now living in Auckland, New Zealand, a man
of many talents, Brent Sandow  has been a knifemaker since 1992.  Brent
Sandow produces a broad range of hunting and tactical knives in both
everyday and presentation grades.  In November of 2005 I walked into the
NYC Custom knife show and Brent’s table was one of the first tables that I
came to.  Without skipping a beat I picked up a knife he had lying there and
told him to hold it for me.  I spent the balance of the day wandering around the
show and came home with only that one knife, this was the new design he
called the Viper.
The Viper comes in several blade sizes
ranging from five to seven inches in
length and features a full double-edged,
mildly clip pointed blade.  The blade
profile is somewhat reminiscent of
Loveless’ classic fighting knives. The
sharpened back edge allows for a full
range of slashing and thrusting
techniques.  Ground from tough 6 mm D-
2 steel and utilizing full tang construction,
the Viper is more than adequately strong
for any combat application.
The Viper is available with either slender micarta or G-10 scales or an exposed, skeletonized tang.
Either handle choice provides a low profile knife with excellent gripping and weapon retention
properties.  The tang/handle incorporates a single finger cutout that enhances weapon retention and is
coincidentally the balance point of the knife.  The butt of the Viper ends in a gentle parabola-shaped
point that will function well as a skull crusher without the danger of suffering personal injury from the
ridiculously sharp pommels found on many of today’s so-called fighting-knives.
